Frequently Asked Questions

Between the upcoming animated feature film, the new art style and brand changes, this is a very exciting time for Adventures in Odyssey. To answer any questions you may still have on these changes, we’ve put together this FAQ guide for you.

What is Adventures in Odyssey: Journey into the Impossible?

Journey into the Impossible is the first-ever full-length, theatrical feature film from Adventures in Odyssey. The film marks a historic milestone for the franchise as it expands into cinematic storytelling while staying rooted in the heart, humor, and Christian worldview that have defined Adventures in Odyssey for more than 35 years.

Who is behind the creation of the film?

The movie is co-written and produced by Adventures in Odyssey Executive Producer Dave Arnold, whose creative leadership has helped shape the audio drama series for decades. The project also features the involvement of John Pomeroy, a veteran Disney animator and supervising animation director known for his work on landmark animated films throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Pomeroy’s expertise brings a dynamic, cinematic sensibility to the project and has helped establish the new visual direction for Adventures in Odyssey as a whole.

What animation style does the film use?

The film is created using digital animation, designed to deliver a modern, cinematic experience while still retaining the warmth, personality, and storytelling charm longtime fans expect. Digital animation allows for expressive acting, dynamic action sequences, and a visual style that resonates with both new viewers and established Adventures in Odyssey listeners.

In addition, this production approach enables the creation of high-quality reusable assets—including character models, locations, props, vehicles, and more. These assets are designed to be fully adaptable beyond the feature film, forming the foundation for a multi-season streaming series.

By building reusable digital elements now, we are able to produce future content more efficiently, at a higher level of quality, and with greater fiscal responsibility. This approach helps us steward the resources God has provided in the most thoughtful and sustainable way, maximizing ministry impact.

How does the Film’s story connect to the audio drama?

Journey into the Impossible is a prequel to the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. The film explores the earlier lives of John Avery Whittaker, his wife Jenny, and their teenage son Jason having all just moved to Odyssey—offering fans a deeper look into the origins, relationships, and formative events that shaped AIO’s most iconic family. While the film stands on its own, longtime listeners will discover meaningful connections to the characters and stories they know and love.

What genre is the film?

The movie leans into an action-adventure thriller tone, with higher stakes and a slightly older feel than the typical AIO target audience. Even so, it continues to uphold the family-friendly heart, moral grounding, and spiritual depth that define Adventures in Odyssey. The result is a cinematic experience designed to engage teens, adults, and longtime fans without losing accessibility for younger viewers.

What characters are going to be in the movie? Is it Whit, Connie, Eugene, and Wooton?

The movie is a prequel to the audio drama, so the story focuses on John Avery Whittaker, his wife Jenny, and their teenage son Jason. These events take place long before Whit opens Whit’s End or meets Connie, Eugene, Wooton, and the rest of the Odyssey cast.

Who is in the film cast?

The official voice cast has not yet been announced. Details are being kept under wraps for the time being, and casting information will be revealed at a later date through official Adventures in Odyssey channels.

How can I see the movie?

As we get closer to release, we’ll share details about theater locations, ticket availability, international screenings, and premiere events. Keep an eye on our official website and social media channels—those will be the first places where new information drops.

Will there be more Adventures in Odyssey animation after the film?

Why is the Odyssey logo changing?

Adventures in Odyssey is entering a new chapter as a fully multi-media storytelling brand—with audio dramas, books, comics, digital content, live events, and now our first full-length animated feature film, Journey into the Impossible. As we expand into new formats and reach new audiences, it’s important that our visual identity reflects both the legacy fans have trusted for over 35 years and the exciting future ahead.

The refreshed logo bridges these two worlds. It honors the history and heart of Adventures in Odyssey while giving us a flexible, modern design that can carry the brand confidently into film, print, digital media, and beyond. By updating the logo now, we’re ensuring that every part of the Odyssey universe feels unified, connected, and ready for the next generation of adventures.

About the new “horizon” shape

You’ll notice that the familiar badge-shaped backdrop is gone, replaced with a clean curved underline beneath the word Odyssey—what we call the Odyssey Horizon. This new element echoes the contour of the previous logo while introducing a symbolic arc that suggests movement, growth, and forward momentum. It’s designed to evoke a horizon line—reinforcing the idea of adventure and the promise of stories that lead somewhere meaningful.

What inspired the logo’s new typography?

The bold, condensed ODYSSEY lettering communicates strength, trustworthiness, and the legacy of more than 35 years of family entertainment. Paired with the upward horizon, the type’s silhouette subtly evokes distant landmarks or architectural forms—grounded, established, and iconic. The handwritten, retro-modern “Adventures In” brings warmth and familiarity, bridging the classic feel longtime listeners love with a fresh, contemporary energy that welcomes new fans.

Our new tagline: “Imagination Lives Here”

The tagline Imagination Lives Here captures Adventures in Odyssey’s identity as a trusted source of creative, family-centered storytelling. It speaks to our commitment to high-quality, imaginative narratives rooted in real-life truth and Christian principles. “Imagination” reflects our dedication to fresh characters, settings, and adventures; “Lives” emphasizes relevance, vibrancy, and life application; and “Here” grounds everything in Odyssey’s 35-year legacy as a beloved, dependable world where meaningful stories thrive.

Why is the art style changing?

This stems directly from our upcoming animated feature film, Journey into the Impossible. To support the film’s action-adventure tone, we developed a new visual style shaped by the leadership of John Pomeroy, a legendary Disney supervising animator (1990s–2000s). Pomeroy created the film’s character designs and helped supervise the revised designs for the audio drama and the extended Adventures in Odyssey brand.

At the heart of Adventures in Odyssey is a singular mission: to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through meaningful, imaginative storytelling. This film gives us the opportunity to do that on a scale never before attempted in AIO’s 35-year history. Because many viewers will encounter Adventures in Odyssey for the first time through the movie, we want the rest of the brand—albums, artwork, characters, and future stories—to feel familiar, unified, and instantly recognizable. Aligning the art style across all AIO media helps ensure that new audience members can seamlessly explore the wider world of Odyssey and discover the stories, characters, and biblical truth at its core.

How is this art style different?

Much of the difference comes from the animation-forward approach introduced under John Pomeroy’s supervision. The character “construction”—their underlying shapes and proportions—has been refined toward a more grounded, anatomical realism while still retaining warmth and stylization. Proportions are closer to real human figures, especially in the size of heads, hands, and eyes, moving away from the broader caricature style of past illustrations.

The result is a design language that supports dynamic storytelling, feels at home in an animated feature, and unifies the look of the film with the rest of the Adventures in Odyssey brand.

Does this mean our previous artists are retiring?

No. Our core artistic team—including our lead artist, the also legendary Gary Locke—remains the same. They are simply working within the parameters of this new creative direction.

Is Adventures in Odyssey using AI to produce artwork?

The Adventures in Odyssey team thoughtfully considers the pros and cons of all new technology before using it, along with whether that technology fits our mission and core values.

In some cases, we now use AI-assisted tools to help our artists work more efficiently as we create more artwork than ever before. AI does not replace our graphic artists. Human designers and illustrators are intimately involved at each step, and every piece of Adventures in Odyssey artwork is the product of hands-on human work, including those projects requiring AI assistance.

Our longtime artists continue to create new illustrations for Odyssey. They are still paid for their work. The heart, imagination, and mission of Odyssey haven’t changed—only some of the tools we use to support that work.

When will these changes take effect?

These changes will begin to take effect in January 2026 across the Adventures in Odyssey brand.

How will these changes affect the audio drama?

These changes will have no effect on the content at all. Adventures in Odyssey has been evolving toward whole-family storytelling for years. The refreshed visuals simply bring the brand identity into alignment with the tone the audio series already reflects. No characters are being removed, and the heart, quality, and direction of the episodes remain unchanged. The film simply expands the creative landscape—opening new opportunities for the stories fans know and love.
