Hope in the Ashes

Book 36

Coming Fall 2026

By Marianne Hering & Marshal Younger

“Hard times reveal heroes and cowards. I believe you can be one of the heroes.”

Mr. Whittaker was certainly right about hard times. When Patrick and Beth arrive in Chicago in 1871, they encounter a raging fire that’s sweeping across the city, forcing thousands to abandon their homes and possessions. The two cousins try to help, but the blaze has turned so many lives upside down. Where are all those heroes Whit spoke about? As Patrick and Beth cross paths with a well-known evangelist giving hope to the desperate and a brave woman opening her home to strangers, they begin to understand that real heroes don’t wear capes, and angels don’t need to have wings. Tough times challenge us all to be the people God made us to be.
